Capital Professionals is pleased to be representing a leading global private investment firm in their search for a
Controller. While the company has global offices, this position will be based in downtown Plano, TX. The company is a leading independent investment firm specializing in leveraged loans, high yield bonds, structured products, distressed securities and turnaround investments. The company manages distressed funds, credit hedge funds, customized accounts and other specialty credit funds. The
Controller will play a significant role in this growth and, if capable, could assume additional responsibilities within the organization over time. Many of their peers in the debt markets manage BDCs with more than $50 billion of assets under management.
Responsibilities
Financial Accounting and Reporting. The Controller will manage the monthly and quarterly accounting cycle from the acquisition of data through the timely preparation of financial reports; assist CFO in the preparation of 10-K’s, 10-Q’s and all other filings required by the SEC and other regulatory agencies; manage the relationship with the Company’s independent auditors and other outside service providers; and keep abreast of SEC directives and FASB pronouncements.
Treasury and Cash Management. The Controller will work with the CFO to manage all cash account and credit facility activities, including wire transfers, borrowings, repayments, account reconciliations and covenant compliance. The Controller will also manage the stock transfer agent funding and reporting requirements for BDC dividends, its dividend reinvestment plan and reportable taxable income.
Culture of Integrity and Accountability. The Controller will lead by example to foster a work environment that requires and rewards performance based on precise accuracy, responsiveness and critical path planning, and will demonstrate the highest levels of ethical behavior both inside and outside the BDC.
Income Tax Reporting. The Controller will oversee the work of outside service providers, as applicable, in managing the Confidential Position Specification Investment Corporation 4 timely preparation of all required state and federal income tax returns and other regulatory filings for the BDC and its subsidiaries, coordinating with the Investment Advisor as necessary.
Investment Operations. The Controller will be responsible for timely and accurate execution of investment disbursements, billings and repayments, and will assist in fair value measurements and financial disclosures in coordination with the Investment Advisor. The Controller will calculate and maintain accurate and timely investment balances and invoices.
Compliance. The Controller will monitor and prepare calculations to document and ensure compliance with SEC rules for BDC’s and IRS diversification rules for Regulated Investment Companies.
Internal Controls/Policies & Procedures. The Controller will establish and maintain efficient and effective accounting and financial control systems; develop and implement policies and procedures to effectively support such controls, as well as for accounting, taxes, budgeting and planning, performance measurement and financial reporting, and work with the CFO to ensure compliance with SOX requirements. The Controller will update and maintain control matrices, narratives and related flowcharts, including financial, IT and entity level controls, and will oversee and manage the internal and external assessment and testing of key controls.
Other Duties. The Controller will perform other duties and tasks to support the CFO in performing the BDC accounting and reporting functions as may be assigned, including but not limited to assistance in preparation of Board of Director materials, press releases and other management and stockholder communications.
Qualifications
- A CPA
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting roles, including some experience in SEC reporting, are essential.
- Prior experience operating within a SOX compliant environment is important.
- Relevant experience in accounting for illiquid/Level 3 assets (either debt or equity), including the valuation process, is a plus, as is familiarity with the BDC sector or other closed-end investment funds.
