The Community Bank Loan Officer is responsible for developing new business, structuring and closing of consumer and commercial loans as well as maintaining and servicing and growing an existing portfolio. They must proactively execute integrated sales, service and relationship strategies to support growth and retention of commercial and consumer clients that have borrowing needs for complex commercial, consumer and/or mortgage loans. The position requires effective interpersonal and communication skills to engage within the community and foster business development activities while representing the bank in various situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and proactively prospects current and potential commercial banking clients for opportunities to provide deposit, loan or other financial products and services, with an emphasis on lending in the areas of farming/ranching, consumer, commercial & industrial, commercial real estate, 1 4 family residential, multi-family and construction. Maintain a working knowledge of bank policies, procedures, and pertinent lending regulations. Responsible for originating, underwriting, closing and servicing loans to include commercial, consumer, secured and unsecured, working capital, equipment, real estate, interim construction, lines of credit and personal loans. Monitors existing loan portfolio to ensure proper risk ratings and early identification of potential problems for the duration of the loans. Meet with customers as necessary during various stages of the lending process to ensure their understanding of the terms and conditions of the loan. Analyze potential loan markets and develop referral networks in order to locate prospects for new loans. Negotiate terms, structure loan financing based on risk considerations and present credits for approval to appropriate levels of authority within the bank as required. Support the banks strong relationship banking culture through on-going customer contact, quality customer service and superior product knowledge. Monitors loan repayment activities and takes necessary action to collect from past due accounts. Aggressively seeks and obtains quality new business through client and prospect calls, referrals and cross selling efforts. Actively involved in the community as a representative of the bank in civic and community functions. Ensures loan and deposit production are consistent with market goals.
Education and Experience Bachelors degree is preferred but can be substituted with prior banking experience. (Finance, accounting, business or economics major preferred) A minimum of five years previous experience in lending, loan operations (funding, servicing, processing); bank or credit union experience preferred. Formal credit training and experience preferred. Lending School is preferred not required.
A strong understanding of lending and collection methods and regulations are required. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form with management, internal and external customers is required. A strong understanding of regulatory and legal requirements pertaining to the banking industry is required. Must be self-motivated and have an ability to work independently as well as in a team setting. High integrity and confidentiality required.
